On June 16, 1963, the Vostok launch vehicle launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome, which put the Vostok-6 spacecraft into orbit around the Earth, piloted for the first time in the world by a female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova (call sign - "Chaika").
During the flight, Tereshkova kept a logbook and took photos of the horizon, which were later used to detect aerosol layers in the atmosphere. The ship made 48 orbits around our planet, and the Vostok-6 lander landed safely in the Bayevsky district of the Altai Territory. The duration of the flight was 2 days, 22 hours and 50 minutes, the range was 1 million 971 thousand kilometers.
Tereshkova is the only woman on our planet who has made a single space flight. All subsequent female cosmonauts and astronauts flew into space only as part of crews.
