On the obverse of the coin in the frame of the interpreted ornament of the Old Russian altar charm of the XII century. Reproduced a model of the universe among the Eastern Slavs, there are images of the small State Emblem of Ukraine and stylized inscriptions in four lines: UKRAINE, 10 griven, 1998 and the designation, sample and weight of metal.
On the reverse of the coin, against the background of the imitated scroll, a triplane composition consisting of an imaginary image of Prince Kyi, images of figures of three horsemen and women (Kyi, Schek, Horeb, their sister Lybid) and fortresses on the hill in the background are deployed. The coin contains stylized inscriptions: KIY (above) and KNIAH UKRAINE (below in two lines).
